Who is Mike Trevino?

Mike Trevino has never been afraid of a challenge. Growing up in the small town of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mike first excelled as an All-State/All-Academic football player and wrestler. His desire to pursue rigorous academics and athletics brought him to Cornell University, where he was a Dean’s List student, played football, and was actively involved in advanced research on scientific reasoning and problem solving.

Mike began his career at a small startup company in Heidelberg, Germany. In Germany, Mike earned a coveted starting spot on the Heidelberg RGH Rugby Team, the German Men’s National Champions at the time. Mike later returned to the U.S. to work for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he worked for several years before leaving to become an independent consultant. In search of warm weather and endless outdoor activities, Mike relocated to San Diego and started his own company, Agilitas, Inc. Mike has provided specialized consulting services to clients such as Qualcomm, Mitsubishi Semiconductor, and Northrop Grumman. Mike continues to manage his company while he trains full-time.

Achievements

UMCA 24 Hour Time Trial

What defines a true multi-sport athlete? Is it someone who pushes the limits of his body and mind, and continues to push further? Does he achieve excellence in one endeavor, only to attempt another? Mike Trevino has taken the meaning of multi-sport athlete to a new level. His disciplines range from mountaineering to extreme ultramarathons to 24 hour bicycle races, and he’s not stopping anytime soon.

It all started in 1998, when Mike ran his first marathon. Bitten by the running bug he soon dreamt of qualifying for the prestigious Boston Marathon. 8 Marathons later, Mike finally qualified at the Scottsdale Marathon.

In the past 6 years, Mike’s had amazing athletic successes. One of his favorite experiences was winning the Badwater Ultramarathon, a brutal 135 mile race from the scorching heat of Death Valley to the thin air of Mt. Whitney 8600 feet above. Most would consider this the pinnacle of any running career, but Mike continued to push his physical abilities. Three months after winning Badwater, Mike shattered the record at the San Diego One Day, a 24 hour track race, running 144.3 miles in 24 hours.

Mike enjoying the Mt. Everest Backdrop

Running is just one of Mike’s passions, however. An avid rock climber and mountaineer, he’s climbed peaks all over the the world. In the fall of 2002, Mike and his friend Forrest were invited by the Chinese government to participate in a clean-up expedition on the North Face of Mt. Everest. During the expedition, Mike experienced the great kindness and spirituality of the Tibetan people and climbed 23,000 feet to Advanced Base Camp.

Though he has always loved riding and is an avid bike-commuter, ultracycling has been a relatively new endeavor for Mike. In his first cycling competition, the Ultramarathon Cycling Association 24 Hour Race in Iowa, Mike finished in first place with an impressive 463 miles. This race designated him as one of a few elite cyclists qualified to race in the RAAM.

The Race Across America will undoubtedly be Mike’s most challenging experience yet, and it is one he has aspired to for many years. Past performance withstanding, there is no doubt that Mike will ride an amazing race this June.
